DPhil (PhD) and MSc students

There are several programmes through which you can join the group as a DPhil or MSc student. The lab is currently associated with the following programmes.

DPhil in Biochemistry
The 3-year DPhil in Biochemistry is suited to students who have already identified a particular research area they wish to pursue for a substantive doctoral research project. This programme allows students to get on with the research they are interested in from the very beginning. There are no mandatory taught courses or rotation projects, though students have access to a wide range of lecture courses taught at master’s or undergraduate level to fill in any gaps in knowledge as they go. Information about application deadlines and eligibility criteria can be found here. If the DPhil in Biochemistry programme is for you, please contact Tim as far in advance of the application deadline as possible.

Synthetic Biology Centre for Doctoral Training
The 4-year Synthetic Biology Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) aims to combine fundamental biological research with engineering principles to produce leaders in the emerging field of Synthetic Biology. In the 1st year, students undertake taught courses and two 11-week research projects in two different research groups. Years 2-4 comprise a substantive doctoral research project in your chosen group. Information about application deadlines and eligibility criteria can be found here.

Oxford Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership
The 4-year Oxford Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) aims to equip students with the broad scientific awareness and interdisciplinary skills needed to perform cutting edge bioscience research. Year 1 comprises taught courses and two 12-week rotation projects in different research groups in Oxford. Years 2-4 comprise a substantive doctoral research project in your chosen group. Information about application deadlines and eligibility criteria can be found here.
